More than 12 years of published writing experience. Several more exploring the craft, gaining knowledge, experimenting and living in many places throughout America, gleaning an assortment of observations on life's wonders and oddities, weaving these experiences into a carefully crafted line.

I'm from a small, former coal mining town in Northeast Pennsylvania. In 2001, I hit the road to see a different part of the country and ended up in Radford, Virginia, where I earned a bachelor's degree in English at Radford University. After graduation, I landed, somewhat randomly, in Foley, Alabama, near the Gulf of Mexico.

A couple of "letters to the editor" I managed to get published in newspapers along my journey convinced an editor of a local newspaper that I had the chops to write about the South. So began my seven-year career as a newspaper reporter. My first big scoop  and my first move into the challenging field of investigative journalism — revealed how the 2002 Alabama governor's race may have been stolen.

After a year or so of living beside a cotton field in a small cabin, I headed back home and worked for several newspapers in Northeast Pennsylvania, including The Scranton Times-Tribune. There, I honed my investigative journalism skills, bird-dogged grand juries, wrote stories about good and evil, and managed to keep my sanity under constant deadlines. Approximately 2,000 published stories and five or so years later, I "retired" from newspaper reporting and headed out west to Denver, Colorado, to reinvent and recharge my writing career.

In 2013, I launched an environmental news publication, Climate Times, so I could immerse myself in digital publishing, content management, and expanding audience through social media. I reached readers in 144 countries before shutting down the publication in mid-2014. In early 2014, I also launched a print and digital content development business, Guiding Type. For a wide range of clients, I've written white papers, blogs, web copy, annual reports, and much more   just about every type of content a business or organization would desire. I've ghostwritten columns for executive directors, developed promotional and integrated marketing campaigns for organizations, and put together social media strategies for businesses to increase their revenue and expand audience.

I am also actively engaged in a few creative writing projects. I recently finished a feature-film length screenplay called "The Vanquished" and a novel, "In Search of Earth." In addition, I developed a collection of poetry, entitled "Irreverent Folly," and finished a book on creative writing. Samples of all the work mentioned here can be reviewed in the various sections of my portfolio professional writing, creative writing, journalism, and academic.
